Check the landfill listing before driving
The Cullman Area Chamber listing, read October 22, 2026, names the operator as the Solid Waste Disposal Authority of the City and County of Cullman, doing business as Cullman Landfill. It lists 2805 AL Highway 69 S and (256) 287-0487.
Its weekday hours differ between sections: 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m. and 7 a.m.–4 p.m. The fuller note explains that customers must arrive by 3:30 p.m. to be weighed, unloaded and out by the 4 p.m. close. Saturday is listed as 7 a.m.–noon, without a cutoff. Confirm arrival requirements and holiday closures before driving.
Ask the facility to confirm your eligibility, vehicle, material, current rate and load classification. A dated listing does not settle the handling of a mixed load.
Start with the job, not the disposal fee
A landfill rate is only one line in a self-haul decision. List the material, amount, vehicle or trailer, fuel, loading and unloading work, time away from the project, and any possibility of another load. Ask the landfill about its current rate and rules before you load. Then compare that picture with a dumpster quote for the same material and address.
| Part of the job | Self-haul to Cullman Landfill | Dutch dumpster |
|---|---|---|
| Disposal or service charge | Confirm the current facility rate and how the load will be classified. | Dutch publishes flat rates for its two roll-off sizes; ask for job-specific terms. |
| Transport | You provide the vehicle or trailer, fuel, and driving time. | Delivery is included within 30 miles of Vinemont, AL; beyond 30 miles it is $3 per mile. |
| Loading | You load, secure, unload, and follow the facility’s process. | You load the container at the property during the rental window. |
| Weight and material | Confirm accepted material, weight process, and any restrictions with the landfill. | Tell Dutch about heavy or unusual material before booking. Allowance is 2 tons on the 20-yard and 3 tons on the 30-yard; extra tons are $75 per ton. |
| Project timing | Work around the facility’s posted gate hours and any trip time. | 5-day rental. Extra days are $25 per day. |
When self-haul may fit
Self-haul is worth checking when you can confirm these points:
- The landfill confirms that your customer type, vehicle, and material are eligible, including how it will weigh and classify the load.
- The load is ready for the facility’s process, and you can load and unload it safely.
- Your schedule allows for the posted gate hours and the time required to drive and unload.
- You have checked restricted materials instead of assuming that a household or renovation load is accepted.
When a Dutch dumpster may fit
A delivered dumpster is often the simpler comparison when you are working over several days, removing material from more than one room, or do not want to plan facility trips. Dutch’s published dumpster rental costs state:
Flat rate: $375 for a 20-yard (2 tons included) and $575 for a 30-yard (3 tons included), each on a 5-day rental, with delivery, pickup, and disposal included. Delivery is included within 30 miles of Vinemont, AL; beyond 30 miles it is $3 per mile.
Those terms are for Dutch’s service. They do not transfer to the County or City container programs. The Cullman County Sanitation pages describe a separate public program with household and construction container sizes and direct customers to the Sanitation Office for pricing and delivery. If your project is construction or renovation work, review construction dumpster rental in North Alabama, describe the material and access, and ask Dutch to confirm the size and weight terms.
Heavy material deserves an early conversation. Dutch’s cost page notes that dirt, concrete, shingles, and wet materials add weight, and the booking page identifies concrete and brick as limited. Tell Dutch what you are removing and ask for job-specific tonnage terms.
Use this checklist before you choose
For self-haul, confirm the facility’s rules and rate. For a dumpster, give Dutch the address, material, amount, access details and requested rental window. Fill in the comparison using the confirmed terms:
| Line item | Self-haul | Dutch dumpster |
|---|---|---|
| Disposal or service | $___ using the confirmed rate, load classification and minimum | $___ quoted rental. Allowance: 2 tons on the 20-yard, 3 tons on the 30-yard. Extra tons: $75 per ton. |
| Transport | $___ fuel, vehicle or trailer; ___ trips | Delivery is included within 30 miles of Vinemont, AL; beyond 30 miles it is $3 per mile. |
| Time | ___ hours driving, loading, unloading and waiting | 5-day rental. Extra days: $25 per day. Your loading time: ___ hours. |
| Total for the job | $___ | $___ from the quote, including applicable extra charges |
If the dumpster fits the project, request a Dutch quote or call (256) 939-7179. The quote should answer which size and tonnage terms apply to your material and address. Keep the facility confirmation or Dutch quote with the project plan.
Cullman landfill and dumpster questions
Can I use the posted rate to calculate an exact bill?
No. Confirm the current rate, how the facility will classify and weigh the load, and the minimum charge. Describe mixed or uncertain material before calculating a budget.
When should I arrive?
Confirm the applicable arrival cutoff and any holiday closure with the facility before you load and drive. The listing’s weekday cutoff is earlier than its closing time.
Is self-haul always cheaper than a dumpster?
No. For self-haul, compare disposal plus vehicle, fuel, loading, unloading, time, and possible additional loads. For a dumpster, compare size, tonnage, rental window, delivery distance, and material-specific terms. Use the full job rather than the lowest single fee.
Talk through your project
Send the job address, what needs to go, who will load it, and the date you are working toward. Dutch Dumpsters will confirm the service, price, and availability before delivery.
